The day started with a late wakeup call and breakfast before we at 09.00 gathered for the City tour in Ho Chi Minh City.
The first stop was the stately Old main post office in French colonial style. The Post office is still housed in the large hall, but has also been given room for other activities, such as tourist centre and Souvenir shop.
Close to the post office, there is also the House of the People's Committee in French colonial style. The house was built 1908. It was called once for "Hôtel de Ville". It was here outside that thousands of people gathered 1945 to establish a provisional South Vietnamese’s government.
The old Post Office
The city tour went after that to the War Memorial Museum.
American Star fighter
In the ground floor, there were materials and images from all over the world that dealt with protest movements and demonstrations that followed in the Vietnam war. There were also pictures that demonstrated the result of Agent Orange. Pictures of malformed children who are still born as a result of the genetic changes that this poison has caused.
Outside the museum there is a setup of airplanes, tanks and other moving weapon units that had been used during the Vietnam war. One hour we devoted to this visit.
The day continued to go in the sign of war memories for now we was on our way towards the Cu Chi and the tunnel systems used by the FNL soldiers.
Cu Chi is located about 4 mil northwest of Ho Chi Minh City and on the way we stopped for a lunch in a very nice airy restaurant with thatched roof and open surfaces.
The Chef in action
The chief chef himself was in full service in the kitchen. The food was made from own produced organic ingredients. The chef himself, and the owner, was well trained and had PhD in the fields of vegetarian cultivation and vegetarian food. He told me long and happy about his way of cultivating especially mushrooms, which was one of the main ingredients of the food that was served at the restaurant.
After the lunch , we entered back to the bus for the remaining journey towards the Cu Chi tunnels.
