Faroe Islands May 30th to June 2nd 2019

My wife and I went for a long weekend to the Faroe Islands in the end May 2019.

For four days we explored Torshavn old town and the islands Vágar, Mykines, Streymoy, Eysturoy for landscape and bird photography.

The Faroe Islands, is a North Atlantic archipelago located 200 miles (320 km) north-northwest of Scotland, and about halfway between Norway and Iceland. They are an autonomous country of the Kingdom of Denmark. Their total area is about 1,400 square kilometres (540 sq mi) with a population of 50,322 in October 2017.

Archaeological evidence shows settlers living on the Faroe Islands in two successive periods before the Norse arrived, the first between 300 and 600 AD and the second between 600 and 800 AD. Scientists from the University of Aberdeen have also found early cereal pollen from domesticated plants, which further suggests people may have lived on the islands before the Vikings arrived.
